Genealogical Notes by Michael RUSSELL OPC for Dorchester : [Note:- *This surname is also often spelt differently most common are:-WINSAR, WINSER, WINSOR, WINZAR, WINZER, WINZOR, WINDSAR, WINDZAR, WINDSER, WINDSOR but also with a 'Y' instead of the 'I' as in WYNSOR and WYNZAR or an 'E' on the end as in WINSORE]

(1) Samuel WINZAR (1683 - 1761) was the 3rd child from the marriage of John WINZAR to Marye GREENE at All Saints Church in Dorchester in January 1679/80. Samuel was baptised at All Saints on 4 Feb 1682/3 and became an Ironmonger by trade. His 1st marriage was to Elizabeth HELLARD in St Peters Church at Winterborne Came on 05 Feb 1705/6. They do not appear to have had any children. In 1725 Samuel was a witness to the Will of Elizabeth ELLIOTT, a Widow of Dorchester, and stood as surety in 1731 to Ebett BARTLETT (bur.1767) the widow of a shoemaker George BARTLETT(1687-1731) when Samuel was bound with her in a Letter of Administration for the correct administration of her husbands estate. When Thomas ARNELL of Abbottsbury died in 1739 (buried there 20th May) owing Samuel money he took over administration of his estate as the principal creditor being bound for £100 with John Morey of Dorchester a Victualler, and Thomas Caynes of Dorchester a gunsmith, in a Letter of Administration. Elizabeth WINZAR nee HELLARD was buried at All Saints Church in Dorchester on 21st April 1743 by which time Samuel was aged 60. Samuel HELLARD, referred to in Samuel's above Will, was probably a close relative of his first wife.

[Note:- Samuel WINZAR's 2nd marriage was to Mary BEAL [BEEL] evidenced by the Letter of Renunciation for right to administration of the estate of Mary WINZAR late wife of Samuel WINZAR of Dorchester dated 14th March 1761. Samuel WINZAR described as being from "All Saints Parish in Dorchester in the County of Dorset" married "Mary BEEL of Crewkerne" at St Bartholomew's church in Crewkerne on 26th June 1744. They had a son they had baptised on 4th Feb 1745/6 at All Saints church recorded as" Samuel the son of Samuel WINSER & Mary his wife". Unfortunately their son Samuel died and was buried at All Saints on 12th Feb 1745/6.

Mary WINZAR nee BALE (1704-1759) was buried at All Saints church 05 Sep 1759 and a Letter of Administration granted to her siblings James BEAL and Elizabeth BANBURY which I have transcribed below:-
