The Last Will & Testament of Thomas PAYNE of Dorchester a Yeoman
Dated 1st Nov 1725 and proved 22nd April 1729

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas PLAYNE of Dorchester in the County of Dorset Yeoman being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following

First I commend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and my body to the Earth to be interred at such place and in such manner as my executrix hereinafter named shall think fit

    And as to such worldly goods as God hath blessed me with all I do dispose thereof as follows

First I give and bequeath unto my loving brother Matthew PLAYNE a Gold Ring of Fifteen shillings value.

Item I give and bequeath unto my loving brother Marmaduke PLAYNE a Gold Ring of the like value of Fifteen shillings value.

Item I give and bequeath unto my loving brother John PLAYNE a Gold Ring of the like value of Fifteen shillings value. These several rings to be delivered unto my said brothers within six months next after mt decease in case they shall then demand the same of my said Executrix

Item I give devise and bequeath unto Martha HEWLETT of Dorchester aforesaid spinster All that my Messuage Burgage or Tenement garden plot and outlet with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Dorchester aforesaid in the parish of St Peters there in the West side of the High South Street now in the possession of Edward HELLARDS and Ralph WARREN as tenants thereto To Hold to the said Martha HEWLETT her executors administrators and assigns immediately from and after my decease for and during such estate and term as shall be then to come therein

    Subject to such yearly rents and covenants as are contained in an Indenture of Lease granted to me by Sir Nathaniel NAPPER or and others Feoffees of the free school of Dorchester aforesaid of the premises aforesaid

Item All the rest and residue of my goods chattels and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto the said Martha HEWLETT whom I make constitute and appoint sole and whole executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of November in the year of our Lord 1725

Genealogical Notes:-

(1) The Rev.Conyers Place MA (1665 - 1738) was also born in Yorkshire and was Master of the Free School in Dorchester from (1689 - 1736). As stated above the parish Registers for St Peters Church confirm his burial there on 16th December 1725.
