Charter of Robert Webbe, made to John Drynkwater and Joan, his wife.

Robert Webbe, alias didus Pury, grants to John Drynkwater and Joan, his wife, and their heirs, his tenement with curtilage on the south side of High East Street, Dorchester, between the tenement of the Master of the chapel (Magistri Capelle) of St. John the Baptist of Dorchester, on the west and the burgage, late Thomas Foot's, on the east, to hold of the King in capite. Warranty. Witnesses, William Baron and John Hakelett, Bailiffs, William Portlond, John Pasco, Robert Childecombe, and others. Dorchester, 20th February, 28 Henry VI. [1450].

[FILE NOTE:- There are some dating transcription errors here in the original published records from 1908. Charters 517 and 518 refer to the Regal year 18 for King Henry VI yet the transcriber has quoted the year 1478. 1478 seems to be roughly in sequence with the preceding charter entries but Regal year 18 for Henry VI in fact starts on 1st Sep 1449. On the face of it this appears to be a simple transcription error when 'Henry VI' has been inserted instead of 'Edward IV' (as in Charter 516) as Edward IV's regal year 18 starts on 4 March 1478/9.

The following Charter 519 however quotes the 28th year of the reign of Henry VI which started on 1st Sep 1449 and as the date given is 20th February it is correctly recorded as the year 1449/50. There was no 28th year for the reign of Edward so we can only assume this is correct and we have three records many years out of sequence]
