At the Court, Dorchester, on Monday next [blank] the feast of St. [blank], 11 Henry IV., was exhibited the will of Joan, wife of Thomas Faryngdon, dated the day of St. Prisca, Virgin, 1410, containing, inter alia, " I bequeath to Willlam Peuerell and Robert Crawford, and their heirs, a burgage in Dorchester, situate in the parish of St. Peter, between tenements of Robert Crokker and Nicholas Webbe, weaver (tex toris) to hold of the chief lords of that fee." 202. Henry Crauell, of Dorchester, and Alice, his wife, grant to Nicholas Pury, of Dorchester, and Agnes, his wife, and the heirs of Nicholas, the third part of their toft in Dorchester, situate on the west side of South Street, between the tenements of Geoffrey Mose on the south, and of the Fraternity of Blessed Mary in the church of St. Peter in Dorchester in the comer, on the north, which third part is the corner part (angularis pars) of the toft, to hold of the King in capite. Livery of seisin. 204. Will of Henry Wytyng. At the Court, Dorchester, Monday next before the feast of Purification of Blessed Mary, 13 Henry IV. [1411], was exhibited the will of Henry Wytyng, of Fordyngton, dated 20th March, 1409, containing, inter alia, " I bequeath to Henry Towker, of Fordyngton, and Edith, his wife, and the heirs of the aforesaid Henry, my tenement with curtilage in Dorchester, situate on the south side of Durnelane, between the tenement formerly of John Glouer, and the tenement formerly of Walter Wittok, to hold of the King in capite, to hold annually the obit of John, Alice and Richard Durant, and to pay yearly to the church of All Saints, Dorchester, a pound of wax, and to the Fraternity of St. John the Baptist there, id." Fol. 44. 205. Will of William Walyssh. To the Court, Dorchester, Monday next before the Purification of Blessed Mary, 12 Henry IV. [1411], was exhibited the will of William Walysch, of Dorchester, dated 20th September, 1410, containing, inter alia, " I bequeath to Joan, my wife, my tenement in Dorchester, situate on the north side of West Street, near the Gate (prope portam), between the places of Richard Hayne, of Dorchester, on the west, and of John Jurdan, jun., on the east, to hold for her life of the King in capite, and then to remain to Richard, my son, and his lawful issue and heirs, failing these to remain to Edith, my daughter, and her heirs, on condition that she gives 10 marks to Matilda, my daughter, for her marriage, when she arrive at marriageable age; if Edith die without lawful issue or assigns, then the tenement to be sold, and the proceeds expended on works of mercy, under the supervision of Geoffrey Mose and Joan, my wife." 206. Will of Nicholas Webbe. At the Court, Dorchester, of the above date, was exhibited the will of Nicholas Webbe, of Dorchester, dated 3rd April, 1410, containing, inter alia, " I bequeath to Agnes, my wife, a tenement on the south side of Durnelane, Dorchester, between the tenements of John Pury on the east, and of Heruy (Henry?) Hesteveld on the west, for her use, and then to remain to Thomas, my son, and his heirs." 207. Charter of William Portland. Walter Bouer and Sarah, his wife, grant by indenture to William Portland, and his heirs, their burgage with curtilage in Dorchester, situate between the burgage of William Assh on the west, and the lane which leads towards the Friars Minors on the east, and the High Street (alia strata) which leads to the East Gate on the south, and their burgage called la Northbern on the north, which they lately had by the feoffment of the executors of John Syward, to hold of the King in capite, rendering to the grantors 16s. a year, in quarterly payments. Proclamation was made that if anyone should show cause why seisin should not be given him, he should appear at the next Court, in three weeks. No one appeared, and the said Thomas was admitted. In witness the Bailiffs affixed their seal of office to these presents. 265. Seisin of John Nagard, clerk. At the Court, Dorchester, Monday next after the feast of St. Thomas, Martyr, 3 Henry V. [1415], it was ascertained that Matilda, late wife of John Joce, had died since the last Court, being then seised in fee of one burgage, situate on the south side of West Street, held of the King, and that she died without issue. Whereupon the Sub-Bailiffs (suhballivi) present that in virtue of their office, according to the custom of the town, they took at once the said burgage into the King's hands. [1422], came Adam Tyrel and shewed a certain record of the last will of Walter Codmour in these words : " Memorandum that on Friday, 4 May, 1421, 9 Henry V., Walter Codemour, alias dictus Walysch, of Dorchester, declared his last will ... in presence of Robert Bertram, one of the Bailiffs, Richard Brans, John Vogke, and William Hykkes, burgesses, in the following form, I bequeath a moiety of my burgage, in which I dwell, on the north side of East Street, Dorchester, to Edith, my wife, and her heirs, and the other moiety to Adam Tyrell and Edith, his wife, my daughter, and their heirs, to hold of the King in capite."
