Barrel Organ & Washington Flag in the North Transept Manufactured by the firm of J. W. Walker, the barrel organ was purchased for the church by Nathaniel Bond in 1858 at the then exorbitant price of 100 guineas. It was in regular use until 1890. The Washington flag was presented to the parish of Steeple by the Mayor of Washington in honour of it's connection with the ancestors of the first President of the United States of America, George Washington. |
The font is 12th C. with a plain round bowl and shaft. Altar Window |
Behind the christening font can be seen the second working organ in this church, brought from Tyneham when the church there was closed due to the requisitioning of the territory for military purposes. The organ was purchased by Mr. & Mrs. Bond of Tyneham as a thank-offering for the recovery of their son from a dangerous wound received at the siege of Ladysmith in South Africa in December 1899. |
