LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF RALPH IRONSIDE, CLERIC, OF LONG BRIDY IN THE COUNTY OF DORSETT - 1628
TESTAMENTUM RADULPHI IRONSIDE, CLERICUS
In the name of God amen. I Raph Ironside of Longbridy being sicke of body but of perfect memory, for which I praise my God, doe publish and declare my will and testament in manner and forme followinge.
First I yeald up and restore my soule unto the hands of my maker, redeemed by Jesus Christ my only saviour. And my body I recomend unto Christian buriall.
I will my debts to be satisfied viz. one hundred pounds unto Mr Scrope and ten pounds unto one in Dorchester, to Mr Kellewaye ten pounds, to one in Longbridye four pounds, to the deareyman twenty pounds, and unto Nathaniell Mathew and his wife twenty pounds.
I give and bequeath unto my brothers fower young children five pounds apeece.
I give unto Jeames Tunstall and his chyldren twenty pounds.
Unto Bartlet at Mydsommer is to bee paid for rent ten pounds.
I give unto my kinsman Raph Lacke ten pounds.
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife my lease of East Bexington togeather with a stocke of ten cowes to hold unto her for terme of her life and after her death I give the said lease and stocke unto my sonne Gilbert Ironside.
I give and bequeath unto my sonne John Ironside my land at Newton to hold unto him for terme of his life.
I appointe and ordaine that a certaine lease of land which I bought of Mr Savage lynge in the fields of Longbridy be sold by my executors and out of the same there bee given to the poore of Longbridye and Winterborne, to each parish ten pounds.
I give and bequeath out of my stocke and goods ye some of one hundred pounds unto my sonne Gylbert Ironside and his children.
I give and bequeath the some of one hundred pounds unto my sonne Gollop and his children.
All the rest of my goods and chattels I give unto my sonne Raphe Ironside whom I make and appoint sole executor.
I make and ordaine my sonnes Gilbert and Thomas Ironside and Thomas Gollop overseers of this my will desireinge them to see ye forme thereof.
This I acknowledge to bee my last will onely.
I add that my executor shall allowe to his mother the bedd she best liketh with the appurtenances and such plate as she please during her life and she to retourne them backe unto him Raphe Ironside.
Memorandum that on the last daie of Aprill at night Anno Domini 1628 the said Ralph Ironside the testator wrote this acknowledgement and subscribed his name thereunto and caused this will to bee published in the presence of Thomas Gollop and Gilbert Ironside.
