BREDY (LONG), a parish in the
hundred of Eggerton, distant 8 miles W. of Dorchester and E. of
Bridport, contained in 1861 a population of
314, and
2,117 acres. The church of St. John Baptist is a small
neat edifice with a tower. It was rebuilt in 1863, and is now one of the prettiest
village churches in the country. The living is a rectory,
value 625pounds, with residence, in the
patronage
of Robert WILLIAMS, Esq., of Bridehead, and held by the Rev. Lundy FOOT, M.A., rural dean and prebendary of Salisbury. Here is a small
parochial school. Here are numerous burrows.
Upper Kingston is a hamlet. Kingston
Russell is a parish 1 mile N.E., With 1,147 acres and 84
inhabitants.
