At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the said County of Dorset and Justices of the Peace of the same County held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Saturday the Sixth day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two for carrying into further execution the Acts of Parliament lately made for the better ordering of the Militia Forces in the several Counties of that part of Great Britain called England.

John FORWARD of Stone Labourer appeared and declaring since he was sworne he never received any order to join the Regiment but is now willing to comply with such orders -- The Mother of John MAINE of Sherborne Servant sent a person acquaining us that that the said Man was removed from Sherborne to Shaftsbury in the County of Somerset two months before balloted and then lived in service with one Mr SLADE a Carrier -- The Father of Thomas OLIVER of Spettisbury Bricklayer appeared on behalf of the said Oliver and declared he removed from Spettisbury to Berkley Castle in the County of Gloucester but refuses to be sworne or provide a substitute -- Henry VINCENT of Ashmore Cordwainer appeared and declared he was in the parish of Ashmore at time the list for that Parish but went before twas affixed or they were sworn and from that time lived at Tollard Royal in the County of Wilts where he now continues -- J (illegible) LOVELL (?) of Gomersay? labourer appeared and on declaring since he was sworn he never received any order to join the Regiment but is now complying with such order -- But no other of the Persons appeared to day that were advertized in the papers for that (illegible) therfore we order and recommend for them to be prosecuted according to Law - Warren LISLE; George BROWNE;

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the said County of Dorset and Justices of the Peace of the same County held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Wednesday tenth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two for carrying into further execution the Acts of Parliament lately made for the better ordering of the Militia Forces in the several Counties of that part of Great Britain called England.

It appearing to us that the following Persons doth Claim and have been legally discharged from the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia by reason of them having served Three years in the said Regiment or discharged being deemed incapable of Service in the said Militia or have been promoted to the Rank of Derjeant or died since the last ballott for the subdivison to this time -- We do therefore pursuant to the power vested in us by Law do allow of and confirm the same Vitz Dead, discharged or promoted as aforesaid in the District of Blandford in the said subdivision of Dorchester [Note:- See commnets below for Dorchester District - Blandford District is also on ----(Image 241) although it comes after Dorchester in sequence]

The following is the Names of Persons which have appeared before us this day that have been chosen by lot at the next meeing for this Subdivision to serve as Private Militia Men in the Dorchester Regiment of Militia or consented to serve as substitutes for Persons so chosen, and have now taken the oath and been enrolled to serve in the said Regiment for the term of three years agreeable to the Act of Parliament in such case made and provided.

The above Person was sworn and enrolled to serve as a Private Militia Man for the term of three years in the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia -- before us this day --- James HELLIER of Buckland Newton Blacksmith have subs at Sturminster Sub Division Meeting held yesterday -- The following Persons who was chosen at the last Meeting held for this sub division having now appeared before us and appears to be incapable of serving as (illegible) therefore we hereby discharge them (Vitzt) John BAKER of Cheselbourne (being Tythingman of Cheselbourne) John (illegible) of Melcombe Regis Helliar (being constable) William SPURDLE of Singleton Cliff & Thorpe Dairyman (being Ba{rest illegible} ) John TUCKER of Winfrith Labourer (being old and very infirm) William NORRIS of Forthington Labourer (illegilel) (---the joint of his forefinger on the right hand and having had his left arm lately broken) and Thomas HARRIET of Portland Joiner is allowed till the 24th Instant to provide a substitute or pay the penalty -- Thomas KELLAWAY of Broadway Servant and Harry GREEN Junior of Froom Billett [Dorchester] have respectively paid the penalty of ten Pounds each into the hands of Mr WALLIS and Captain MICHEL have engaged payment of the penalty for John CUTLER of Dewlish Mason and William CORP of Dorchester Joiner appearing to be a legal apprentice to his father is hereby discharged -- We allow and confirm the above -- Witness our hands John JENNINGS; D.R.MICHEL and Thomas GOULD----(Image 9)

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the said County of Dorset and Justices of the Peace of the same County held at the house known by the sign 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Friday twenty sixth day of November in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two (being the first Meeting held in and for the said Subdivision after the General Meeing held the Twenty sixth day of October last ) for carrying into execution the Acts of Parliament made in the Second year of the Reign of his present Majesty King George the Third entitled An Act to explain aucend? and reduce into one Act of Parliament the several Laws now in being relating to the ordering and training of the Militia within that part of part of Great Britain called England.

The following is the number of persons returned by the Constables and Tythingmen of the Parishes Tythings and Places in the Districts of Dorchester and Blandford and Subdivision of Dorchester (as follows) which lists were verified on Oath.

The lists of Persons liable to serve in the Militia for the Parishes Tythings and Places above mentioned were returned by the several Constables and Tythingmen on oath and examined by us -- Witness our hands
