(East and West)

MARRIAGE LICENCES   BANNS   WILLS   STRAYS & OTHERS

CERTIFICATES OF DEATH   MISCELLANEOUS

The indexes that follow are of documents held at the Dorset Record Office which relate to the residents of Pulham.

Each document is identified by a DRO reference number which is made up of a letter code, identifying the parish, followed by further alpha-numeric characters which signify the type of document and, presumably, its storage location. The final digits, identify the specific document and it is these numbers which are shown in the indexes below, under the heading “Reference”.

For example, Pulham Parish documents begin with PE/PUL. Pulham marriage licences are all PE/PUL/IN/1/1. Add to this the Reference number from the tables below and you have the unique identifier for a given marriage licence.

PE/PUL/IN/1/1/5 will be seen to be that of Jane WARREN and John WAY .

Other types of document and Pulham ‘strays’ in other parishes will be added to these indexes as time permits.

WILLS, ADMINISTRATIONS & INVENTORIES

This index contains an extracted list of persons 'of Pulham' who left wills, letters of administration or inventories to be found with the Probate Registry at Blandford Dorset, Archdeaconry Court of Dorset up to 1793. The names are extracted from indexes found in publications at the Dorset Record Office and elsewhere. Copies of these documents should be available from the Dorset Record Office. Note that this index does not cover the period from the 1790's to 1858. Also included are names of persons with wills proven in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, this comes from the PRO site National Archives Discovery Catalogue. The wills can be downloaded from this site for £3.50 each. To date there are more than 800,000 wills on this site and the years from 1700-1858 are complete. There are weekly uploads to finish the years 1650-1699.

Note : this is not a complete list of wills made by Pulham residents. Wills may have been proved in places other than the Archdeaconry Court of Dorset or PCC, for example the Royal Peculiar of Sarum.   From 1858 all wills were indexed centrally and this index is widely available at Record Offices, Probate Registries and the LDS.
