Poole Methodist Circuit

As per the 1837 Preaching Plan, the Poole Methodist Circuit consisted of: Poole; Swanage; Wimborne [Minster]; Colehill & Broomhill [in Wimborne Minster]; Kingston & Corfe Castle; Worth [Matravers]; Langton [Matravers]; Creech [in Church Knowle]; Highwood & Binegar [in East Stoke]; Wareham; Morden; Lytchett [Matravers]; Organford [in Lytchett Minster]; Witchampton; [Tarrant] Monkton; Cranborne; Woodlands; Holt Wood [in Wimborne Minster]; Gussage; Longham [in Hampreston]; Horton Heath [in Horton]; Studland and Lower Lytchett [i.e. Lytchett Minster]. Occasionally there are entries from other parishes, e.g. Christchurch, Bere Regis and Hinton Martell.

The register was pre-printed with blank spaces to fill in for child's name; father's name, residence & occupation; mother's forename(s) & parents' names; dates of birth & baptism. Some clerks were more assiduous than others in completing these details. Entries were not nececessarily chronological and are presented here in the order they appear in the register. Note clerks often mis-numbered entries, skipping backwards and forwards.

Please note: RG4/1231 is a transcript of this document together with RG4/2412 (Poole Methodist Chapel Baptisms 1809-20). Although the handwriting of RG4/1231 is easier to read and spellings are more conventional, I chose to transcribe this document rather than RG4/1231 because it is the source document.
