Will of William Longman 1692

The following is a transcript of the Will of William Longman made 1685 proven 1692 transcribed from a film of the original at Dorset History Centre by Bob Hills May 2011
Notes: Letters within [] are inserted by me to expand an abbreviation in the text I have done, to the best of my ability, a literal transcription of the document however often vowels are indistinguishable from one another and some constants likewise



In the Name of God Amen I William Longman of Marnhull in the County of Dorset yeoman being of good & perfect memory (thanks be to God do make this my last Will & Testam[en]t in manner & form following. Imp[ri]s I bequeath my Soul unto God who gave it me, & my Body to the earth to be decently Buried according to my faith in ye Resurection

Ite[m] I give unto my Eldest Son John Longman after my decease & ye decease of my now wife Edith & to his heirs & Assigns for ever my House which I now liveth in, the Orchard & garden adroy -ing to the House in Marnhull afores[ai]d, & one table board, & four joint Stools in ye Hall Ite[m] I give unto my s[ai]d Eldest son John all that parcel of pasture called the home Close to the s[ai]d Messuage Adioying conteyinng Six Acres, one parcel of Meadow lying in a certain Meadow in Marnhull afores[ai]d called Broad Moor meadow conteyning four Acres or their abouts, & one Acre of Meadow lying in Broad Moor in a certain place their called crooked Lands & one plot of ground commonly called or known by the name of Haselbrook conteyning six Acres & one out House which was formerly a Barne.

Ite[m] I give unto my Son William after my decease & the decease of my wife Edith and to his Heires & Assignes for ever the old kitchin, & the garden plot adioyning to itt & the Orchard in the other side of the old Barne, Two Closes of pasture in Marnhull afores[ai]de called New Krith conteying eight Acres, one Close of meadow called forty Acres conteyning forty pearch.

Ite[m] I give unto my Son Barnard after my decease & the decease of my Wife Edith & to his Heires & Assignes for ever one Plott of meadow ground com[m]only called or known by the Name of Street Crost conteyning one Acre & half in Marnhull afores[ai]d, & one plot of ground called by the name of Stenewick conteyning six Acres or there about.

Ite[m] my will is that in case my Son William doth dye without Issue then his part of Land shall Remain to my son Barnard

Ite[m] I give unto my daughter Mary Burge after my decease & the decease of my wife Edith one shilling
Ite[m] I give unto my daughter Edith Davig after my decease & the decease of my wife Edith one shilling
Ite[m] I doo make over unto my wife Edith one Plott of meadow ground in Marnhull lying in Broad Moor adioyming, against Linton Lordship conteyning two Acres, & my Will is that my wife Edith should sell the s[ai]d Meadow to pay my Debts

Ite[m] my will is that after my decease & the decease of my wife Edith that my son John shall pay to my daughter Mary Burge Twenty pounds:

Ite[m] my will is that after my decease & the decease of my wife Edith that my son William Longman shall pay to my daughter Edith Davige Twenty pounds

All the Rest of my goods & Chattles whatsoever not herin devised or bequeathed (my debts & funeral expenses being first discharged I give & bequeath unto my wife Edith whom I make sole & whole executrix of this my last will & Testam[en]t. In witness whereof I have sett my hand & seale September the Twenty fifth in the year of our Lord God One thousand six hundred eighty and five Primo Jacobi Second
