Bradford Abbas and Clifton Maybank. .Bradford Abbas is a parish on the River Yeo, in the hundred and union of Sherborne, Sherborne division of the county, 4 miles south-west from Sherborne, 2 miles south-east from Yeovil station, and 178 from London, diocese of Salisbury, archdeaconry of Dorset, deanery of Shaftesbury, containing, in 1851, 621 inhabitants, and 1,139 acres. The living is a vicarage, to which is united the rectory of Clifton Maybank, joint annual value £479, with residence, in the gift of Winchester College, and held by the Rev. Robert Grant, B.C.L. The church of St Mary is an ancient structure, with an embattled tower and a peal of 6 bells. Here are two foundation charity schools, supported by distinct funds, but united in operation in one building. The Marquis of Anglesey is lord of the manor.

Wyke is 1 mile east.

Clifton Maybank, a parish in the hundred of Yetminster, distant 5 miles south-west from Sherborne, contained, in 1851, 72 inhabitants, and 1,254 acres. The living is a rectory, united as above.
